The main streets in Shanghai where to have a real shopping fever are located on the Puxi side of town around Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, Changle Road, Taikang Road and South Shaanxi Road.
Nanjing Road is Shanghai most popular street. The walk from the Bund to People Square is a very challenging yet amazing experience to really feel the beat. On the west side of the street, from People Square to Jing An Si, you will find more expensive shops. Close to Jing An Si, Plaza 66 is a uber-luxury mall where the wealthy Chinese crowd likes to walk around to buy LV bags, Chanel dresses, Dior glasses or Bonpoint coats.
For the ones with low budget, we suggest QiPu Road, where a market famous for its unexpensive garments is located.
On the Pudong side of town, Super Brand Mall is the latest mall in Shanghai with most western and asian brands being represented.
Xujiahui is the place to go if you are looking for the newest computers, phones, MP3 and other electronical devices.
For the souvenirs, the best bet would be the Old City Street on FangBang Lu. There are over a hundred stores and shops in this area where your bargaining skills will be highly challenged.
Here are a few brands with Chinese/Asian touch :
Exquisite embroidery stitched in glittery silk is a Chinese folk handcraft which has been passed down for thousands of years as a cultural heritage, remaining a visible source of pride for China. Annabel Lee's two well-located stores sell elegant, hand-embroidered women's fashions, slippers, purses, and household accessories in delicate fabrics and unfussy colors. The Chinese styles and leitmotifs—such as lotus flowers, dragons, and snuff bottles—allude to 19th-century Shanghai backstreets, though the product quality and consumer appeal is unquestionably 21st-century. The store eloquently portrays how traditional Chinese culture was transformed, but not necessarily destroyed, by the introduction of Western culture in the late 19th century.
