Thematic Pavilion

The thematic Pavilion is located in Zone B of the enclosed area of the Expo site and to the west of Expo Boulevard. The outlook of the Pavilion is inspired by the “lane” and “dormer” of the old Shanghai. A special architectural method similar to origami is used to build the pavilions into a structure with both two-dimensional and three-dimensional effects. In addition to its unique appearance, the Theme Pavilions should also be energy-efficient and environmentally friendly buildings.

On the eastern part will be a sub-pavilion titled “Urbanian Pavilion” (?); the northern part will contain two sub-pavilions, one for the disabled and the other for public participation. The western part will be divided into “Pavilion of City Being” and “Pavilion of Urban Planet” (?). The middle area, a 7000-square-meter multifunctional room will be a reception hall, will connect to the sub-pavilions and functional sections.
