The Expo Boulevard - main axis and thoroughfare
The Expo Boulevard is located in the center of the Pudong part of the Expo Site and is the largest stand-alone structure within the Expo Site (2.4 million square meters). The Expo Boulevard has two levels underground and one above plus a canopy. It will act as the main axis for pedestrians, ground traffic and sightseeing in the Expo Site during Expo Shanghai and will continue to be the main axis of landscapes in the city after Expo Shanghai.
It is a semi-open structure and will serve as a large transportation and commercial complex of multiple functions. The boulevard should have two lower levels where the future Metro Line 13 will be connected, ferrying about 50% of the visitors.

The Puxi end of the project involves a 480-meter boulevard and a 920-meter arch-shaped pedestrian walk, both of which are designed to connect entrances of major pavilions and link to shuttle bus stops.

The boulevard will start on the west side of Xizang Road S. in the north and be linked with the Xizang Road S. tunnel to form a complete traffic network. It will serve as the main thoroughfare between Puxi and Pudong sections of the 2010 event. One of the highlights of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo should be these giant horn-like structures that will be built along the 1-kilometer boulevard. The structure will disperse sunshine into the underground level of the boulevard. Engineers from China and Germany worked together to design this portion of the boulevard, which is expected to be finished beginning of 2010.
