
World Expo Performing Art Center
The Performing Art Center is located within the water-front park, in Zone B of the Expo Site, east of the Expo Boulevard. It is adjacent to the Celebration Square in the west, and opposite to the Expo Center. It faces Huangpu River in the north and Puxi Zone of Expo Park across the river.
The Center covers 67,242.6 square meters of land, and its gross building area is 8 hectares, in which the overground building area is about 4.5 hectares, and subsurface construction area is about 3.5 hectares. Line 8 of the rail transit system and South Xizang Rd. Tunnel will meet in the subsurface area of the Center. There are a complete set of supporting facilities for transportation around the project site, including subway, maglev train, bus, overhead footpath and ferryboat wharf.
World Expo Performing Art Center is one of the most important permanent venues for the World Expo. During the period of World Expo, it will hold various large-scale performances and activities, fulfilling its function of undertaking large-scale performances. It will consist of a large central stage, a large multi-functional hall and other related facilities. The central stage is the first of its kind in China that can be adjusted to form different shapes within 360 degrees, providing enough space for stage design, art innovation and imagination as needed for different kind of performances.

After the World Expo, follow-up utilization and sustainable development of World Expo Performing Arts Center will be considered further (?). The Center will need to adapt itself to the concept that Shanghai is an international culture metropolis, and become a culture-entertainment complex which operates around the clock and practices an integration of comprehensive performing arts, artistic exhibition and vogue and recreation. It will surely show and maintain the theme of "Better city, better life", and guide the development of cultural industry in Shanghai.
