
Monaco, Past, Present and Future - The challenges of a City-State development
Monaco Pavilion illustrates the evolution of the Principality of Monaco, during the centuries, and invites visitors to discover Monaco through an amazing walk. Built on a 2000 square meters area, Monaco Pavilion is situated in Zone C, the European Area, surrounded by the Belgium Pavilion and the Serbian Pavilion. Monaco, a bordered country by the Mediterranean sea. Several blue light ring of water of 12 meters of height, compose the façade of the Monaco Pavilion, to illustrate the attachment of the Principality of Monaco to Environment and easily remind the visitors of expo the amazing colour of the Mediterranean Sea during day time as well as night time. The “rock”, symbol of the Principality of Monaco is the pavilion itself.
Inside: a real cinema! With an accommodation up to 250 people, this room will be equipped with a high definition screen of 56m ², where visitors will watch the movie” Monaco, a rock for eternity": a 6 minutes animation movie, exclusively produced for 2010 Shanghai World Expo. An extraordinary adventure which will send visitors back in time to Prehistoric Era and bring them nowadays… VIPs will attend the screening from a private balcony on the first floor of the pavilion.
A walk along typical old streets of Monaco, will allowed visitors to discover the city, the particularity of its flora and fauna.Then, visitors will arrive to a Formula One area, dedicated to the world famous event, Monaco Grand-Prix, from its beginning in 1929 to nowadays: evolution of car, city transformation, KERS system used during the race. Monaco grand-prix is one the only of the world to have a circuit situated in the city. A movie will take spectators to make a lap tour of the circuit as if they were inside the car.After the Grand-prix adventure, the pavilion tour will continue with a portrait gallery of the Main Sovereign of the Principality of Monaco: Charles III and the heyday; Albert Ist; Prince oceanographer and scientist; Ranier III, Prince builder of the modern Monaco, Princess Grace, symbol of glamour, culture and poetry and finally, H.S.H Albert II, and its government axis which is looking for providing a quality of life for futures generations.
A Sustainable Development area will then demonstrate ecological actions of HSH Albert II foundation, with an interactive globe installation, videos and projections and at last, a luxury ecological car prototype: the new Venturi Volage!For finishing, visitors will be able to photograph themselves in front of a famous place of the Principality of Monaco before, have a look at to info area and souvenir shop, offering Grand Prix caps, Exclusive Expo Pin’s, a golden plate porcelain, typical postcards, stamps collection and more surprising items to be discovered.The first floor of the pavilion will be reserved for offices and for VIP area where reception of important persons holds an important place. The special welcome: a lounge of 350 square meters for evening reception and cocktail.
As one of the smallest country in the world, surrounded by the sea and mountains, Monaco Pavilion decided to design its logo accordingly. In 2002, Shanghai won the World Expo 2010 in the Principality of Monaco, therefore the Chinese wave’s style recall the boundaries between the city of Shanghai and Monaco.
